Super Beats has music in his DNA, from being brought up with his Mother introducing him to old-school R&B, Soul, Funk, Hip Hop to starting out his music producing career on his PlayStation. Faceless chatted to the talented musician to find out more about his sound, his projects and his inspirations!
Q. Who is Super Beats?
Super Beats is a 23 year old man named Sheridan. I was born in Nottingham, UK and am a Music Producer.
Q. What would you say sets you apart from current music in the charts?
The style of music I produce isn’t really current in the charts but is influenced by old school Hip Hop, which is quite current in the States.
Q. You initially began producing on your PlayStation, which must have seemed worlds apart from the technology available now! Is it important to be able to use the latest music programs if you want to produce the best kind of music?
Not really. I would say it’s about how you use the program more than the program itself. They are many successful records being produced on programs some people may look down on, that people keep quiet. I think every producer has their own individual way of producing and programs that suit them best.
Q. How important do you think social media is for current artists and producers to get their music heard?
I think social media is very important for artists and producers, due to the fact that the majority of music marketing is distributed digitally these days. Not only can you download music and listen to music on social media, you can also network with each other and distribute your music independently. It has definitely opened the door for more artists and producers to get heard with or without a label.
Q. If you could collaborate with any artist, alive or dead, who would it be and why?
I would like to collaborate with Amy Winehouse, as I think she’s a genius! Her talent was out of this world. I’d love to work with Busta Rhythms, Joey Badass, ASAP Rocky, Kendrick Lamar, Nas, Big L, Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill…I could go on forever! There are so many artists I’d like to collaborate with in the near future.
Q. What does the rest of 2013 hold for Super Beats?
I’ve got an EP coming out with Lippi, which should be dropping sometime this year and a few videos too! Keep an eye out for my solo stuff I’ll be releasing as well!
