Swash Music Presents Under The Radar: Liz Lawrence

Liz Lawrence

Swash is a label set up by ex Mis-Teeq lead singer Sabrina Washington, who is currently working on her solo career, who have created Under The Radar. Under The Radar is an online platform giving up and coming artists an outlet to showcase there talents. Each artist will have an interview and two acoustic sessions uploaded. The artist with the most views will get the chance to have their track professionally recorded at our studios. This series has seen an extremely high level of talent, with one of the artists performing on the Jools Holland show, one touring with DJ Fresh and another supporting Ed Sheeran on his UK tour.

Ever since Liz Lawrence discovered the guitar she was determined to make acoustic music an exciting, fresh and honest genre. Playing in punk and ska bands as a guitarist in her early teens, she finally managed to take the mic and found herself entranced and engaged in a full blown love affair with live performance. Liz’s punk history may not be obvious on first impressions but once she starts to march on the stage her fiery and precocious nature cannot be suppressed.

Leaving the midlands where she grew up, Liz opted for an against the grain art education in rural Devonshire over the desire to move to the big city. She found solitude and time aided the development of carefully sculpted songs with melody hooks that are instant but sensitive and lyrics that talk to her listeners with honesty and compassion. In this secluded environment Liz began writing her debut album. Liz’s honest approach to “old- fashioned song writing” led to a record that is colourful and earnestly heartfelt.

Liz has supported artists such as; Scouting for Girls, Xavier Rudd, Ben Howard, Brooke Fraser, Young the Giant, Yoav, The Civil Wars, Michael Kiwanuka, and one of her idols Ani Difranco, who commented on Liz as “a beautiful artist who lives on the edge”.
