This series has seen an extremely high level of talent, with one of the artists performing on the Jools Holland show, one touring with DJ Fresh and another supporting Ed Sheeran on his UK tour.

MyLyricalMind is a solo acoustic project started in September 2011 by 22 year old Matthew Wood. He mixes the sounds of reverby acoustic guitar with unique dreamy like vocals, personal, poetic lyrics with mysterious meanings, and catchy choruses, to create something new powerful and different.

Matt first started playing guitar when he was 11 and had lessons for over a year, losing interest in playing he didn’t pick up another guitar until he got a cheap electric guitar for his 16th birthday. Over the next 4 years Matt started to teach himself how to play again. In 2010 Matt started to post youtube videos of music pieces he had created, but it wasn’t until June 2011 when Matt first started writing full songs and singing them. After spending the summer creating a number of different demos using a 4 track recorder, Matt decided to create MyLyricalMind and started gigging under this name.

After playing a few open mics and some private gigs for friends, Laurence Stanley (who was an old school acquaintance) got in touch with Matt asking if he would like a to record an E.P with him for his music production course. At the end of October 2011 MyLyricalMind went into the prestigious Lever Street Studios, where the likes of Oasis had recorded before. Two months later, MyLyricalMind’s debut E.P ‘Dreams Break At Dawn’ was ready for release.

The first single off the E.P was ‘Wake Up Mornings’ released on Christmas Eve for free download and streaming. The full E.P came out on Boxing Day digitally and physically for free. Since then Matt has been tirelessly promoting and showcasing the album to as many places as possible. Feedback for the E.P was and continues to be brilliant, with many people comparing the style to Thom Yorke, Bon Iver, and Benjamin Francis Leftwich. MyLyricalMind has since secured multiple radio interviews, and gained airplay on the likes of BBC introducing, Salford Uni Radio, Silk FM and even Bangor Student Radio which made it record of the week. MyLyricalMind has played a number of high profile gigs, including supporting Peter Grant and Rubylux on their UK tours, and playing in some of Manchester’s well known venues such as the Ruby Lounge, Moho Live, the Deaf Institute and Retro.

Matt attracted the attention of London based record label and management company The Animal Farm, who asked him to record his first professional E.P with their company. The first single ‘Drop Me A Line’ was released on the 13th August 2012 and received positive reviews. Matt also recently gained an endorsement from his guitar make ‘Faith Guitars’, due to them being so impressed by his new E.P. The full E.P is due to be released in the next couple of months.
